Student Projects
We continuously have interesting student projects available for MSc students in particular from Leiden University (such as from the LACDR, LIACS or the Mathematics Departments). These projects can be started anytime and topics can be tailored to each individual students' background and interests.
In general, projects within the Pharma-IT Platform bridge life sciences and computer science, which, due to the wealth of data available from life science methods, is a strong growth area. Typically, projects involve the analysis of life science data by employing/developing novel algorithms, with the aim to detect yet unknown information present (but hidden) in the data.
While we cannot make promises for the future, a project in our group should increase your chances of employment in e.g. life science companies, or the chance to do a PhD in a related area, significantly. Publication of the work, if permitted by the results, will be strongly encouraged from our side.
To answer one frequent question: Don't be afraid of the computational (or the 'life science') side of the project - everyone working with us has only one on the backgrounds from their studies: either computer science or maths; or one of the life sciences chemistry, biology or pharmacology. The other part will be acquired while 'on the job'. On the contrary, see this as a useful supplement of your training: You are either learning how to analyze data you generate working in science (if you have a life science background) using novel methods; or you are learning interesting applications of your algorithmic or computer science knowledge (if you have a maths or computer science background).
Please just contact us by e-mail or phone, or visit us in person, if you think you could be interested in doing your MSc project. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
